Why Blackout?  Why Do We Want To Turn Out The Lights?

 

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and a chance to shine a spotlight on the inequalities faced by thousands of children with cancer around the world.

In many countries, knowledge about childhood cancer is very low. As a result, children are often misdiagnosed or are only taken to see a doctor when their disease is very advanced and difficult to treat.

What’s more, it is estimated by the Lancet Oncology that 43% of children will never get a diagnosis.

The fact is, childhood cancer is often overshadowed by diseases that affect adults. Children cannot advocate for themselves, so it is down to us to spread the word. 

Together we must demand more research into childhood cancers and better access to treatment.

 

 New England, unfortunately, shows the most cases of pediatric cancer every year.  No one knows why.  

 

This is how we do our little part to raise awareness and funding for pediatric cancer.  

 

It was a full, exhausting, successful and gratifying week.

Well not for Rob and Dave- they got all of our banners up and worked so hard- GRATEFUL!

Friday- BLACKOUT DAY!

Students and Staff sported their Blackout Tees at School and Folks around town did too!  So magical!

 

 

That afternoon, Lea and I had our annual "Blackout Lunch"

I need to write this here to remember- we had the worst possible weather we could ask for, outside of a snowstorm.  It was raining sideways and yet....it couldn't dull the magic of the night...it was the best one yet...we had the most families show up and a "monster crowd" as the Eagle Tribune called it.  I was blown away!

 

BEST School Principals Around!  They helped present flowers to our honored families at half time

 

and the BEST COMMITTEE around...wow!  Grateful

Windham came up short to Londonderry (the best team in the division) but only lost by one touchdown- Final score was 21-14 and it was an exciting game!  Most importantly, we all came together for the kids!  We raised $30,000 last year.  I am hoping we beat that this year-stay tuned!
