Wednesday Hodgepodge

Hi Friends and Happy Wednesday!  I am joining Joyce for her fun linkup and we are answering these great questions below...

1. Do you make an effort to see/hear live music? Last time you went somewhere for the live music?

I LOVE live music.  It is actually the way I met my husband.  He is in a band and we met in a bar and it was love at first sight ;) When we go out which is rare nowadays (our nights out are separate- him playing with his band and me going out for girls nights), we do like to catch a band/live music.  It's our jam for sure.

2.According to HGTV the colors of the year for 2026 are mostly decided. Top paint companies declare a color of the year, and decorators will incorporate that into their new year home and room designs. Here's what's on tap in terms of paint trends for 2026 (check out the link here to see photos)

  • Sherwin Williams-universal khaki (inspired by heavy canvas and outdoor gear)
  • Behr-hidden gem (a confident shade of teal)
  • Valspar-warm eucylyptus (a warm sliver tinted green)
  • Dutch Boy-melodious ivory (a honey tinted beige)
  • Glidden-warm mahogany (a classic brick red)
  • Krylon-matte coffee bean
  • Clark and Kensington -Hazelnut Crunch (warm reddish-brown)
  • Graham and Brown-Divine Damson (cherry red with a subtle violet undertone)
  • Dunn and Edwards-midnight garden (the green that works everywhere)

First question-did you know there were so many different paint manufacturers? Which color on the list most appeals to you in terms of your own decorating style? Do you have plans to do any painting in your home in the coming year, and if so might you choose a color from this list?

I wasn't aware there were so many different paint manufacturers.  The color that appeals to me most for my decorating is Dutch Boy- Melodious Ivory- a neutral beige is always safe to me.  No plans to paint this coming year.

Now, forget painting walls, which color name appeals to you most?

Krylon- Matte Coffee Bean appeals to me but probably because I am looking at the description- sometimes I think about painting one of our bathrooms a matte coffee color!

3. What's something in your life you have to do-watch-or participate in that's about as exciting as 'watching paint dry'?

I'm at a loss on this one...I really make an effort to put forth the most energy and focus to all that I do...even if it is something dreadful (like taxes/organizing info for taxes) I stayed focused to complete the chore/task as quickly as possible.

4. Tuesday, October 14th is/was National Dessert day...did you/will you celebrate? Tell us how? What's your absolute favorite dessert. Yes, just one. I know!!

Oh wow!  Had no idea!  LOVE chocolate and sweets unfortunately...nothing done to celebrate but if I were, I would most likely celebrate with something chocolately and gooey that may have a little marshmallow or caramel drizzle on it too ;)

5. Perhaps today is the day I will...

Get some exciting news? :)

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Every year, I really get into the fall traditions...the decorating...the cooking...the partaking in all of the festivities and this year, I haven't at all...I am attributing that to a few things...1. the college application process with Diana 2. Diana's senior year...all the festivities and traditions and 3. The weather...our summer lasted through last week with temps in the 80's believe it or not...since we are hosting HOCO pics, I am not decorating for Halloween...I have some pumpkins and fall decor up outside and a few pumpkin dishes inside and that is it...it is all about the blue and gold here in these parts and I am ok with that...it is helping me hold onto senior year...maybe it will be back to normal next fall...maybe not...that is my random thought for this week

Hello Monday and Hello Coastal Cheer!

Hi Friends and Happy Monday!  I am here with Sarah and we are chatting about our weekends.  If you did the same, please link up with us below!  Here is what we were up to...

Friday Night

Time for FNL...I picked up Lea and Karen and we headed up to Dover...we were meeting some other Mama friends at the Thirsty Moose for dinner and pre-gaming...had a blast catching up!

Then I get a text from Diana telling me that they were turning the cheer bus around...the coach got sick so they couldn't cheer at the game...I was not happy...to say the least...I will make sure she knows I am happy to be their chaperone so they can cheer...especially the seniors...it has been a wacky season...but what are you gonna do

I let Rob know so he and his Dad and Eva didn't have to make the drive up but they were already in the area and wanted to see the game anyway...guess we were all on the same page...Diana and the cheerleaders ended up driving themselves so they could make the second half of the game and be there to support the players.

The Jags made it worth it...what a game..they blew away Spaulding 35-6!!!

Saturday

Alarms were set for 4 am...we all got up...Rob was bringing Diana and me to the airport and he, Papa and Eva were heading directly to softball from the airport...it wasn't as bad as I thought...we were pretty chipper and our trip down to South Carolina was a smooth one.

When we got there, we got our rental car and drove to our hotel which was only 15 minutes from the airport.  We stayed at the Courtyard Marriott Oceanfront...too bad it was a rainy and stormy weekend (hurricane season) because it would have been a beautiful beach to be on...but we loved our views nonetheless.

We checked in and unloaded our bags in our room.  Then we walked down the street to a cute little burger place for lunch.  I got the most delish peanut butter and bacon burger (I never have burgers so it was a nice splurge) and Diana got the chicken fingers which we called hands since they were so big!

and then bopped on over to Ben and Jerry's for dessert- we both had amazing waffle cones and the flavor I show was Marshmallow Sky- delish!  We chatted with the lovely lady who worked there for a bit...she has a senior too so we were talking all things HOCO and dresses etc...so fun!

We headed back to the room so she could primp and then I brought her and a friend (picked her up at her hotel) to Coastal Carolina so they could meet up with one of their cheerleader friends who goes there.  She was so good to them...took them around...took them to a frat party (God help me) and let them stay in her dorm room with her.  They had an absolute blast!

What did I do?  I was so full from lunch that I never even got dinner...I got cozy and signed into Netflix and continued watching Gilmore Girls in my room...chatted with my mom on the phone for a bit but fell asleep pretty early...needed it. Snapped a few pics of my view...

 Meanwhile...at home...the troops were rallied

Sunday

It was a slow morning for me...I grabbed coffee and toast and berries downstairs and brought them back to my room.  Watched another episode and then went to pick up the girls.  We dropped Kit back off at her hotel and headed back to ours so Diana could get ready for the "main event."

At noon, she was attending the Coastal Carolina Cheer Clinic.  I was so glad that parents were allowed to stay in watch.  I would've just sat in a coffee shop and read, etc but I was excited to be there.

She had a blast...I noticed that the girls were very friendly and warm as were the parents that I sat with...I always say, once you leave New England, people are so much more warm and friendly- it was refreshing!

At 3, they were dismissed...it was a great experience and I am glad we made the trip.  Coastal and Merrimack College (local to us) are her two top picks right now...we shall see...

We headed out...our flight had been delayed two hours so we took our time...Diana was starving and as I was driving back towards the airport, I kept looking for a good dinner spot..well we got desperate and stopped at The Olive Garden..I was cracking up...I had just talked about my snobbiness over this chain but desperate times called for desperate measures and I was actually pleasantly surprised!  We enjoyed the salad and bread sticks and I got chicken scampi which was edible.  Our server was so lovely too so she made it a pleasant experience- ha!

After that we headed to the airport, dropped off our car and went through security...I was so shocked at how quiet the airport was.  With all of the storms up and down the east coast and all the delays I thought it would be crazy but we sailed through.  Stopped for a drink for the way home and then hunkered down at our gate.  We proceeded to watch a couple of Gilmore Girls episodes on my iPad...we were delayed once more but I was grateful we were getting out last night.

We arrived at Logan at 11:30pm...Rob was there to pick us up and drove us home.

I am tired but grateful...it was important for her to get there for that experience and show her face so they will recognize her at tryouts.
