Barbie 2023!

So...have you seen the movie yet?  It has been Barbie in these parts every darn day it seems- ha!

While in NYC, Dawn and I visited the Malibu Barbie Cafe for lunch and had a blast!  I wrote about that on Monday HERE :)

and I knew I wanted to see the movie so I was so excited when one of my friends through Eva suggested it.  We were going to try to go after the TTTC show but we wouldn't make it in time so we went on Monday night instead and thoroughly enjoyed  it!

We started with dinner and cocktails at Pressed Cafe- do you have one near you?  It was my first time there and I loved it!  Check out Kyra and the # she got.  So appropriate as she is obsessed with Taylor Swift :)

But back to Barbie...anyway..we headed over to the theater and made sure we got a couple of group shots of course...all decked out in our Barbie Pink :)

Then we thoroughly enjoyed the movie.  As a daughter, a mother and a granddaughter I got choked up in different parts and truly appreciated the homage to this piece of our childhoods.  Loved the dry humor and jokes too!

Margot Robbie is just stunning and Ryan Gosling as Ken was hysterical

I would highly recommend it!  Diana is going tonight with a friend and then I feel good about letting Eva see it too so I may be going again!

I will leave you with one of my favorite parts...a speech made by America Ferrera's character...so on point!

"It is literally impossible to be a woman. You are so beautiful, and so smart, and it kills me that you don't think you're good enough. Like, we have to always be extraordinary, but somehow we're always doing it wrong.

"You have to be thin, but not too thin. And you can never say you want to be thin. You have to say you want to be healthy, but also you have to be thin. You have to have money, but you can't ask for money because that's crass. You have to be a boss, but you can't be mean. You have to lead, but you can't squash other people's ideas. You're supposed to love being a mother, but don't talk about your kids all the damn time. You have to be a career woman but also always be looking out for other people. You have to answer for men's bad behavior, which is insane, but if you point that out, you're accused of complaining. You're supposed to stay pretty for men, but not so pretty that you tempt them too much or that you threaten other women because you're supposed to be a part of the sisterhood."

"But always stand out and always be grateful. But never forget that the system is rigged. So find a way to acknowledge that but also always be grateful. You have to never get old, never be rude, never show off, never be selfish, never fall down, never fail, never show fear, never get out of line. It's too hard! It's too contradictory and nobody gives you a medal or says thank you! And it turns out in fact that not only are you doing everything wrong, but also everything is your fault."

"I'm just so tired of watching myself and every single other woman tie herself into knots so that people will like us. And if all of that is also true for a doll just representing women, then I don't even know."

Aww, you guys look adorable in your outfits!! How fun to go with a group of girlfriends. The acting was so good, wasn't it? Regarding the lines you quoted about being a women and the struggles- when I heard that, it made me realize how glad I am to have faith- to believe that there's something more than any issues I may have with my kids, career, body image, etc. If we're living with no hope of anything other than what the "world" tells us, that is super depressing because the world is fallen and both women and men have unrealistic expectations thrown their way. Just my "deeper" than normal thoughts on that part of the movie. Have a great Wednesday!

I am loving seeing all the hot pink on everyone's blogs! I don't have plans to see the movie but I'm sure I'll end up streaming it at some point down the road.
