Hi Friends and Happy Monday! I am here with Sarah and we are chatting about our weekends. If you blogged about your weekend, grab our graphic above and link back up with us below!
We are getting back from an amazing long weekend and winter break in Cancun Mexico! We left on Thursday and got back last night and we are so very thankful for this little getaway, quality family time, warm weather and amazing turquoise waters.
Here is what our last few days have looked like...
Thursday
The alarms were set for 3 am and we, along with my father in law, were picked up at 4am (my parents arrived the day before- Rob brought them to the airport to catch their flight so they were waiting in Mexico for us!)
It was a smooth four hour flight.
Yeah! Turquoise water :)
When we arrived at the airport in Cancun, we were bracing ourselves for long lines in immigration due to our research BUT we were pleasantly surprised when we were through in less than a half hour- it was great!
We didn't check any bags. We all did carry ons which helped to speed things up too!
We went outside and hailed a taxi pretty quickly and we were off to our resort!
We checked in and since our room wasn't ready, we all went to Papa's room to change into our swimsuits and coverups and got outside ASAP :)
But before...need to capture my travel outfit so I remember to wear it this spring and summer
We stayed at the Beach Palace. Fun Fact: Rob and I stayed at a sister resort, Moon Palace, 20 years ago on our honeymoon. We were so excited to go back with our girls and our parents. We spent our favorite day on our honeymoon at Beach Palace and decided to stay here this time because it has the best beach and it did not disappoint!
We met up with my parents and hit the beach- yahoo! Oh to get into that water and sit on the soft sand was incredible. The past few months of stress and sadness all started to melt away
Check this out...rail trail at home (40 degrees) and beach in Cancun (80 degrees)...what a transition...
After a little while, we headed up to one of the pool bars for some snacks and drinks. The food and drinks were amazing- we were so wow'd.
Ceviche- the first time Rob and I had this was 20 years ago here and we never forgot it- it did not disappoint! Just delish!
Later on, we got into our room and changed up for dinner. Part of the all-inclusive amenities at the Palace Resorts include a fully stocked bar in your room as well as a fully stocked fridge. We didn't even end up touching anything- there was just so much! Anyway...they gave us a bottle of champagne too...such lovely touches
We headed to the Mexican Buffet Restaurant and enjoyed some Mexican and American fare...
and then a fun show outside where the girls volunteered- we got very silly and laughed the rest of the night- ha! So much fun
Friday
My Mom and I got up first thing and headed out for a walk. On this day, we opted for the route on the street but it ended up being rough with lots of traffic so we knew we would change our course the following day. Nevertheless, we got in some exercise, chatting and laughs for sure!
After that, it was time to get into our swimsuits and attire for the day and then we all headed to the breakfast buffet...incredible doesn't even do this justice. There were so many options- savory- sweet- so many beautiful tropical fruits...you had your choice of anything really...oh and did I mention that the buffet included my very fave food of all time? Well besides pizza? Yup...almond croissants!
After that, we hit the beach for a bit!
Then we spent most of the day at the pool and swim up bar- we all agreed that it was so relaxing and the best day together :)
To finish our outdoor time, we headed up to the rooftop pool and Sky Bar- beautiful views and another fun spot at the resort
That night, we headed to one of the two Italian Restaurants for dinner- Tavola
You can't even tell that Diana is making Pidge laugh in these pics...well you can tell that Pidge is laughing but not what Diana is saying to her- ha!
We had a great dinner!
After dinner, we headed over to the little Sweet Shop to grab some dessert- they had amazing homemade ice cream and truffles and they even had marzipan- haven't seen that in years! This resort thinks of everything!
After that, my parents and I crashed hard. Rob, Papa and the girls headed to a Michael Jackson show in the ballroom and they had such great stories for us the next morning.
Saturday
My mom and I headed out first thing to the beach for a walk...what a workout..the sand there felt like the snow we have been walking in here...we were sweating! So beautiful... walking and seeing the sun rise
Then we met up with the rest of the fam for breakfast...snapped a pic of the awesome wine fridge in the front of the restaurant- so many great choices and many from California!
Rob...pretending to be our waiter
Big Pete making himself a Bloody- he is the best
Then it was time to hit the beach!
One of my friends...actually enemies ;)
Even after the breakfast buffet, Pidge wanted a crepe from the sweet shop...one of our jokes on this trip was that Pidge got her money's worth....she enjoyed the all inclusive amenities to the fullest...we were cracking up!
After a few hours, Rob, my Mom, Diana and I got changed and cabbed it to Mercado 28- one of the markets in downtown Cancun to do a little shopping...we had a blast...Diana got a bag and some jewelry for the prom (a ring and bracelet that match her dress), my mom got some souvenirs and I got the bracelet that I had years ago...Rob and My Mom bought it for me and told me I deserve it...it really choked me up...life hasn't been easy but I know it is turning around and I am grateful for it all
It is a Mexican Sombrero Bracelet!
I wish I had taken some pics at the market- there is nothing like it- we enjoyed getting to know some local peeps and all agree that the people of Mexico are the nicest around- so warm and welcoming- we felt like we had known them forever
We were going to hit Fat Tuesday on the way back to the resort but the traffic was too heavy and we didn't want to waste any time. Once we got back, we met up with the rest of the fam at the pool bar and agreed to go upstairs to check out the Sports Bar- it was so cool! Pidge actually learned how to play pool and enjoyed playing with my dad and father in law
After dinner, we headed down to the swings at a poolside bar to snap some pics. Rob and I had taken pics on similar swings at the sister resort on our honeymoon...so we wanted to recreate the photo 20 years later...sometimes it feels like yesterday and sometimes it feels like a lifetime ago...oh the things we have been through together....
We wrapped up our night with some family photos
Sunday
This was our travel day but we all met downstairs for one last breakfast together....my parents are staying a few extra days but we had to get home for work and school
Beautiful sunrise to send us off...
We will miss you Ernesto!
What a wonderful time...grateful for my family and this time we got to spend together...this one felt even more special...Cancun...you have a special place in my heart for so many reasons...thank you!
