Wednesday Hodgepodge (A Day Early!)

From this Side of the Pond

Hi Friends!  I am joining Joyce for her Hodgepodge linkup a day early...since Currently with Jen is tomorrow and I didn't want to miss out on this fun linkup too...so squeezing them both in!  Let's get to it...

1. What do birthdays look like in your house? How are they celebrated? Any special traditions? What about birthdays growing up?

We make a big deal of birthdays...it was the same way when I was growing up...my parents went all out...we always had a friend party and then a family party and my brother and I always had a combined family party because although we are three years apart, our birthdays are a day apart!

My parents always made an amazing cake...the train cake goes down as the best one EVER...my mom would decorate and make all kinds of food and our parties always included pool time since the weather was always hot.  Our birthdays go down as some of my favorite childhood memories.

I have tried to do the same for my girls...when they were little, I went overboard with themed parties for sure

Check out some here

Under The Sea

Frozen

Aladdin

Kentucky Derby

2. Someone is sending you a dozen roses...what color are you hoping for? Are you someone who gets accused of seeing the world through rose colored glasses? Is your accuser correct? Elaborate.

I would have to say pink roses...or even white....heck I would take any color...I LOVE flowers...and yes I have been described as seeing the world through rose colored glasses... I guess I would have to agree...I try to put positive spins on things for the most part...don't get me wrong..I can be a Debbie Downer like everyone else but I try to remember to be grateful most of the time...and sometimes, yes, it means being optimistic and thinking positively

3. June 4th is National Cheese Day...will you celebrate? What's something (besides a burger) you make in the summer months that calls for cheese?

Cheese is one of my forms of kryptonite..I would say my three are cheese, chocolate and pizza...anyway I digress...I may celebrate?  Not sure...if we had wine group that night, we would definitely all partake...that is usually where I consume cheese on a monthly basis.  I like all kinds but my top picks are ricotta...fontina and mascarpone...what can I say...I am a true Italian girl.  Over the summer, you will tend to see cheese in some of my seasonal apps like

Watermelon, Feta and Blackberry Bites

 Burratta, Tomatoes and Peaches

 Red, White and Blue Bites

4. 'tis the season...any weddings on your June calendar? What's the first word that comes to mind when I say marriage?

No weddings this June!  In fact, I think our next wedding will be Zach's on 10/10/26!  Cannot wait :)

The first word that comes to mind when you say marriage is patience...that's all I got :)

5. What are you most looking forward to this June?

All the graduation festivities...Summer weather....walks on the rail trail...trips to the beach...riding with the top down...spending time with my girls :)

6. Insert your own random thought here.

This is the true MVP of the Karen Read case...iykyk

My mom was a talented cake decorator and made us fab cakes for our birthdays, too! Love the pics from your girls' parties- we did a Frozen one, too, one year for Alyssa. So fun- I may have to dig up some old pics for my post. I am so with you on the cheese.... but, I'm definitely not an Italian girl as your favs would not be mine, lol (but I'm with you with cheese being in our top three!). I think that you guys are going to have a great summer and I look forward to following along :).

We are definitely kindred spirits in the birthday theme department. I will have to dig up a picture of my mermaid cake...it was almost as big as my dining room table and the mermaid outfit was made of Necco wafers. It was so cute, but who could eat all those Neccos? When my youngest daughter turned 25 I went into her apartment while she was working and left her 25 presents. It was the best! They weren't all big exciting gifts (she got lightbulbs in one bag because she never had them) but it was fun to do and she loved it. It's almost peach season here in SC and I'm ready for a burrata salad. Your blackberry app looks good. I might try that. I like watermelon and feta. Cheese is near the top of my list too. Thanks for joining in!

Ahhh summer! My sister bought herself a red Jeep just in time for summer! Patience is such a good marriage word. I am not a naturally patient person.

I enjoyed your answers. Awesome birthday. I do remember making a winnie the pooh cake and a catepillar cake when my girls were little
