Monthly Musings: January 2025 (Winter Self Care Edition)

Hi Friends!  Patty and I are so glad you are here!  We hope you will join us for our Monthly Musings linkup!

This month we are talking Winter Self-Care.

We are answering these questions

Let's get to it!

1. What do you do to Stay Warm in Winter?

Dress in layers- use fuzzy blankets- wear socks (not a big fan of socks but always make sure I am wearing them especially in the hockey rinks!)

2. Favorite Wintertime Activity?

Does watching Eva play hockey count?  Ha!  If not, then I would say a new found favorite is walking on the rail trail...though it is cold, it is beautiful and peaceful

3. Any Different Beauty Routines in Winter?

Just extra moisturizer...nothing too crazy

4. Skating, Sledding or Skiing?

I would say skating but I haven't done it in years

5. Favorite Winter Recipes?

Soups, Chili and Hearty Dishes like these:

Jimmy Fallon's Crockpot Chili

Ratatouille With Chicken

Crockpot Chicken Noodle Soup

Greek Egg Lemon Soup With Chicken

6. Favorite Winter Hot Beverage?

Coffee or a nice Hot Toddy like

Hot Buttered Rum Cider

 7. Best Winter Memories?

They would have to include our winter getaways and in particular our big trip to Punta Cana with Besties and our trip to Aruba with some other Besties- not winter people so any time we can get a taste of summer we do!

8. Coldest Day That You Remember?

Probably last week...going outside and having my nostrils freeze...it is going down as one of the coldest winters in history here- BOO

9. How are you Practicing Self Care This Winter?

I am exercising as much as possible...not using the cold as an excuse...and it has been wonderful for me both physically and mentally

10. Flannel Sheets- Yes or No?

I don't have any but I would say YES...I am sure they are very soft and warm :)

and here is our schedule for the rest of the year...

What I'm Watching/Reading

Still making my way through One Tree Hill- Up to Season 6

and I made it through two books this month

"Murder At The Spelling Bee"- A Maya and Sandra Mystery (Book 4 of 5) by Lee Hollis

Love it- this series is so light and fun!

Twelve-year-old Rocco Fanelli is a spelling bee champ in the making. He’s the odds-on favorite to win the local middle-school bee and go on to the regionals, the state, and ultimately the nationals. Which is why someone is trying to intimidate him to drop out with a threatening note in his locker. Rocco’s concerned parents hire Maya and Sandra to uncover the culprit and ensure their son’s safety.

But the competition turns killer when a high school teacher who’s running the bee, clearly favoring certain students, is found dead in the school supply closet. Sandra had already confronted Ellie Lambert over unfairly grading her son Ryan—which now makes her a suspect.

She’s not the only one who tangled with the teacher, however, and with suspects ranging from helicopter parents to the school custodian, Maya and Sandra will need to put their heads together to spell out who had the motive and opportunity to silence Ellie Lambert . . .

and my read for Book Club this month was "Don't Forget To Write" by Sara Goodman Confino

I LOVED IT!

When Marilyn Kleinman is caught making out with the rabbi’s son in front of the whole congregation, her parents ship her off to her great-aunt Ada for the summer. If anyone can save their daughter’s reputation, it’s Philadelphia’s strict premier matchmaker. Either that or Marilyn can kiss college goodbye.

To Marilyn’s surprise, Ada’s not the humorless septuagenarian her mother described. Not with that platinum-blonde hair, Hermès scarf, and Cadillac convertible. She’s sharp, straight-talking, takes her job very seriously, and abides by her own rules…mostly. As the summer unfolds, Ada and Marilyn head for the Jersey shore, where Marilyn helps Ada scope out eligible matches—for anyone but Marilyn, that is.

Because if there’s one thing Marilyn’s learned from Ada, it’s that she doesn’t have to settle. With the school year quickly approaching and her father threatening to disinherit her, Marilyn must make her choice for her future: return to the comfortable life she knows or embrace a risky, unknown path on her own.
