Let's Look: How We Prep For The Holiday Season Edition

Hi Friends!  I am joining Erika and Shay for their fun link up.  This month's edition of Let's Look is asking us how we prep for the holiday season- so much fun!

Let's get to it!

Hosting/The Calendar

I always decide the hosting I like to do.  Truth be told, because of our blended family situation, it ends up being easier for most if I just host.  That way all sides of the family can come to us and everyone stays happy.  I am looking forward to not hosting as much in the future but for now, I feel it is my calling.

In addition to hosting the holidays, I decide on what little extras I want to throw together for fun.  For example, most years, we host a Thanksgiving Eve/Friendsgiving the night before Thanksgiving.  That is always one of my most favorite nights.  I feel as our kids get older too, it will be a nice time to celebrate them coming home from school!  We have one college kid coming back this year (Caden) and can't wait to see him!

We are also hosting Halloween this year!  Looking forward to it.  It will be a fun night for the kids and adults and a nice mix of family and friends :)

I host an annual Ladies Night/Favorite Things Night at Christmas time for my besties too.  We love enjoying apps, cocktails and desserts on that night and I make sure our home is already decorated for Christmas!

When all is said and done, we plug everything into that family calendar so everyone knows the drill.

Menu Planning

I always plan a menu.  So here is what I am planning for Halloween Night:

Mummy Dogs

Mummy Pizzas

Monster Mac N Cheese

Creepy Calzones

Lizard Chicken Fingers

A Festive Veggie Tray

A Spooky Charcuterie

and whatever spooky snacks and treats our friends and fam add to the mix!

Invitation Lists

I make a list to get a basic idea of how many people- large crowds don't scare me- the more the merrier.  I typically go to Evite to send out a mass invite for one of our events

Decor

The decor is the center of all of our planning though isn't that always true?  For Halloween, we are already decked out in both spooky decor (inside) and festive fall decor (outside).  It just sets the tone and ensures everyone gets into the spirit!

So how do you prep?  I am looking forward to hearing your tips and advice!  Always love tweaking our systems here :)

  1. I think you should be a party planner! That you are able to host so many get togethers with panache with a full time job, a busy season of life with your kids, volunteering events, etc. is so impressive. That you make it seem not super stressful but fun is even more impressive. #goals- you are killing it!

  3. I enjoy hosting too and we are a 'the. more the merrier' kind of home too. We have in-laws to share holidays with when it comes to the grands and everyone has been spread out so that's been something to get used to. My oldest will be moving nearby next year and I cannot wait to finally have one child in the same place as me!! Our neighborhood does a fun 'dock or treat' for adults and kayakers come to your dock for an easy snack and beverage. We love being a stop on their tour and everyone wears costumes. Lots of fun. We were invited to two Halloween parties this year but have a wedding that weekend and need to travel on Halloween so boo. No pun intended : ) Enjoy all your holiday gatherings! Looks like you're a wonderful relaxed hostess and that always makes people feel comfortable and welcome.

  4. I love how organized you are and that is so kind of you to do all the hosting, I know that's a lot of work! I just host Christmas dinner at our home and as much as I love and wouldn't trade it for a thing, it does stress me out because I worry about all the things, haha! Your Halloween lineup sounds delish and love that you do an annual get together for your best friends too!!

Hope you have a fantastic rest of your week! :)
