Hi Friends and Happy Monday! We got back yesterday from Cape Cod....I wanted sooo badly to write about this beautiful celebration so many times BUT it was a BIG surprise for my Dad and he reads my blog so I didn't want to spoil it and I am SO GLAD I did not!
My Dad turned 80 on Saturday...instead of throwing a big party...my mom wanted to take him away for a weekend and have us all join them and make it a big surprise....
That was our favorite part of the weekend...how surprised he was when we all arrived at The Blue Rock Golf Resort in Yarmouth AND THEN when we were there to yell surprise...I will never forget it! (He got so choked up!)
Friday
Check out Blue Rock HERE
We highly recommend it especially for the golfers in your life! My mom spoiled us all and got us all rooms here for the weekend!
Our rooms weren't ready when we got there around 11am so we all hung by the pool and had snacks and drinks. We also did a birthday toast with the glasses I brought for the special occasion!
The Birthday Toast!
The girls wasted no time and jumped right in the pool!
We had decided we would have an early dinner because we wanted to try the famous
Skipper's Chowder House in South Yarmouth (same town as our resort) BUT if you go at dinner time, the wait can be 2 hours or longer! So we got our acts together and headed over there at 3:30.
Guess what? Even for our Party of 9 we got RIGHT IN! We did the right thing though because it did not take long for the restaurant to be packed!
Verdict? Outstanding! It was the best clam chowder (or clam chowdah as we say in these parts) that we have ever had...creamy...tons of clams...not alot of potatoes...so flavorful..can't rave enough!)
Check out Skipper's Chowder House HERE
and because I was having "Steamahs" (steamed clams/steamers) for dinner, I needed a beer and this Wachusett Blueberry on tap did not disappoint
My Beautiful Parents
"Second Wives"
My Dad and Father In Law Bob a.k.a Papa
My Girls!
My Brother Matt
Matt and Mary- we all LOVE Mary!
A few in the group got dessert because they are known for their ice cream and shakes too- GREAT place- highly recommend!
When we got back to the hotel, we hung by the pool for awhile for a night cap!
Saturday
It was the day of "passions." My mom had arranged for My Dad, Papa and Robby B to golf at the course that our hotel sat on- such a beautiful course!
Matt and Mary headed into Hyannis for shopping and lunch...she snapped a pic in his "candy store" which was really a great record store! He was in heaven :)
My Mom, the girls and I headed to the private beach at our sister hotel...and it was sooo perfect...
and the girls made me take this picture at a store and send it to Mrs. Mullen (their ballet director)
After that, we all headed back to the hotel to freshen up...we had a photo shoot scheduled with a local photographer and she was having us all meet at the club house... I snuck a few photos in during the shoot ;)
P.S She came decked out in a Lilly too! Told her we are a Lilly family :)
Highly recommend Denise at Fleeting Moments Photography on Cape Cod. You can find her HERE
after our photos, we headed to the official Birthday Dinner at
The Ocean House in Dennisport. It was OUTSTANDING as we knew it would be. You need to typically make reservations 6 months to a year in advance but we got lucky and scored their last one three months ago!
Check them out HERE
We sat in their outdoor tent...overlooking the ocean...it was exquisite!
My bestie Beth Ann does a girls weekend with her high school friends this same weekend every year and we knew we would bump into them...so excited when we did and had a quick visit! Had to snap a pic of course :)
My Dad and I also love oysters and shared some as an appetizer :)
The food and the service were impeccable!
My Sea Bass was delish!
We had ordered a special birthday cake for Dad too since they have a talented pastry chef on staff...that was outstanding too of course!
What a beautiful celebration! So happy that my dad was so happy!
That night, we hung by the pool for a little bit again!
Sunday
Well there is never a dull moment and I always feel that when we are headed to "The Cape" we are always dodging storms- ha! Hurricane Henri was making its way up the coast so we knew we needed to head out early. We were all up and at 'em and made one final stop together to the famous Pancake Man down the road for breakfast. Check them out HERE
They have been around since 1961 and did not disappoint...of course they are known for all of their amazing pancakes but they have everything and I enjoyed some amazing avocado toast :)
Then we headed home but we think many people had left The Cape the night before because even in the rain, the traffic was light! We were home by 12noon.
Remi kept Kayla and Marshall company all weekend and LOVED all of the attention...they even took him to his first outing for a cookout with Marshall's family :)
The rest of the day? Rob and I KILLED IT and organized the girls' closets and clothes for the school year....so happy to have that out of the way!
HAPPY 80TH BIRTHDAY DAD! THANK YOU FOR BEING THE BEST FATHER EVER...TEACHING ME HOW TO WORK HARD AND MAKE THINGS HAPPEN AND HOW TO BE A GREAT FRIEND. LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!
Linking up for Hello Monday HERE
and Patty and I hope you will join us on Thursday for Monthly Musings as we talk all about Back to School! See the questions below and GET READY!
That sounds like such an amazing weekend on the Cape. Sorry Henri rushed you all home but so glad you didn't have much traffic trying to leave.
