Wednesday Hodgepodge

Hi Friends!  I am joining Joyce for Hodgepodge...as always, she has some fun questions to answer so let's get to it...

1. What's something you recently forgot to do? Is your memory these days more like a sieve or an elephant?

I do pride myself on being like an elephant...in my line of work, I need to be able to trust my memory when evaluating candidates...anyway, we have been so so busy lately that some things slip between the cracks on the weekends...unfortunately...anyway...I forgot about the dog as far as this coming wedding weekend...we need to make trips home to feed him and take him out...thank goodness the wedding is not too far! Thank God I remembered in time to strategize!

2. Share a trick/strategy you have to help you remember things you need to remember.

I plug things into my outlook calendar- I have a personal one, a work one and our family one.  It is my bible!

3. What's your favorite fall vegetable to cook with? Do you prefer your fall veggies roasted, blended into a warm soup, or fresh in a crisp autumn salad?

I like veggies all year long and in all forms listed above.  In the fall, I particularly like roasted squash and zucchini especially in my autumn risotto! Find my recipe HERE

4. October 5th is/was National Do Something Nice Day. Did you? If so tell us about it. Or maybe someone did something nice for you, and if that's the case please share.

My husband took my Jeep to get gas...it is the little things...the glimmers of  kindness that give me hope in this world

5.  Nathaniel Hawthorne is credited with the quote "I cannot endure to waste anything so precious as autumnal sunshine by staying in the house."

Do you tend to spend more time outside this time of year?

Do you actively pause to soak in fleeting moments of beauty in your daily routine? Elaborate.

I should spend more time outside...I don't really unless I am going for a walk OR attending a football game...I think I need to try to get outside every day!

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Let's talk HRT?  Are you a participant?  How do you feel about it?  How do you feel in general? Are you ever worried that you are prone to cancer because you are taking them?  Give me the good, the bad and the ugly.  I know how I feel but I want to start the conversation with my blogging peeps.

  1. I can imagine how you need multiple calendars with as many things as you have going on! I will check out your risotto recipe- I have a zucchini that I need to use up :). I tried HRT and honestly thought that it helped but now I'm thinking maybe it was the placebo effect? I didn't renew when out and honestly feel pretty good without them. I'm not worried about cancer- I'm pretty sure that link has been debunked. I have friends who swear by the results. Mine were so-so. I'm thinking about trying them again with a different office.

    1. They make me feel great but my mom made me pause this weekend- she doesn't think I should be on them due to our family history but yes those theories have been debunked. Keep me posted on what you decide Maria!

  2. I find I always forget things more when I am busy and you are so organised with your calendar!
That autumn risotto looks so good!
I need to make more of an effort to get outside everyday now that the weather is changing.

  3. I'm not on HRT but did have a really long and informative talk with my OBGYN at my last appointment. It was eye opening learning that she was never ever taught about HRT and to learn that it's not really talked about in the medical community much. It was pulled altogether for many, many years based on one really poorly run drug trial/test back in the 60's or 70's and no one has wanted to fund a second test since. However, that said she did assure me that should I ever need it it is there and as it is becoming more widely used and accepted to prescribe they are learning more about it. While it can increase the risk of certain cancers it also lowers risk of osteoporosis, keeps your metabolism from bottoming out, and may even benefit your heart health so like any other drug it has its pluses and minuses.

    1. Agreed Joanne- since I had the full hysterectomy I think more about heart health, bone density and everything quite honestly and they make me feel good

  4. I've never taken HRT because I've had a few issues with mammograms so every gyn I've been to has said absolutely not. However. I believe the studies now are showing women who take it have lower risk. Who knows which study is the right one? It's all quite confusing. I would have loved it though as everyone I know who does take it says it makes a huge difference. Ah yes the dogs. They do tie us down in ways we sometimes forget about. Is there a friend who could maybe come in and let him out to save you a trip home? Hope you have a great day!

  5. Can you take any of your work station outside? It might be too much! Eat your meals outside? It's really hard when you are working. My friend swears by her HRT but I haven't started it yet. I am most interested now in topical estrogen but I couldn't tell you exactly why. Do a whole post on it!

  7. I haven’t tried/ needed HRT. I seem to have sailed through mpause without a problem (knock wood). That risotto sounds fabulous!

  8. I’ll have to try your risotto; it looks delicious.
I’ve never been on HRT, as I’ve never liked putting too much into my body. I had an easy menopause and feel great. I'll be 73 in March.

  9. Holly, I am on HRT and have been for 2 years, it was LIFE CHANGING for me! I am on bioidentical progesterone and estrogen. My biggest issue has been modifying what I need and how much. Still a work in progress, but I wouldn't go without it. I had (have) every single menopause symptom and issue, it has been insane.

  11. You are queen of organization!! I haven't used HRT due to risks of blood clots for my medical history, but so many friends swear by them to help.
